In all things, we try to draw near to our Methodist roots and its founder John Wesley who believe that there is no holiness but social holiness. Wesley thought that it was impossible for Christians go grow spiritually without one another. We need each other to be Christian truly. At FUMC, we believe this social holiness starts in the home where we are socialized to the church and the world; so it is the church’s duty to help families grow in their faith. Our Family Ministries Director, Angela Sellers-Swanson, is committed to helping your family in any way that she can. Contact her at. firstname.lastname@example.org
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
We believe that the cultivation of Christian discipleship begins the moment we are born. Therefore, ministering and proclaiming God’s Good News to children stands as one of our top priorities. We encourage children to be a part of our church and ministry through a variety of ministries.
Children in Worship
We are strongly committed to welcoming and including children in worship. Fifty years of religious sociological worship demonstrates that children must be in worship if they are to continue their discipleship after leaving home. Therefore, First United Methodist Church looks to the future of the church universal by letting the little children come to Christ, even in our worship services. The sounds of children in the sanctuary are the sounds of a healthy church and spreading faith.
In our Children’s Center just outside the sanctuary, we provide kiddie bags full of coloring books, toys, reading books, crayons etc. that allow the children to learn the faith in the way they do best: through play. Feel free to take a bag into the sanctuary!
Nursery care is available for children 6 weeks to 8 years old during the 10:00 and 5:00pm services and is staffed by paid, trained staff. This is located on the east end of the Education Building. Please ask an usher, greeter, or even pastor for assistance.
Nursery care is also available during meetings/classes and rehearsals during the week. Speak with your group leader or Angela Sellers-Swanson to make arrangements.
Sprouts is our Sunday children’s ministry that meets from 12:00pm to 1:30pm and welcomes children K-6. Participants learn to practice daily:
- Acts of Devotion
- Acts of Kindness
- Acts of Justice
- Acts of Worship
Fun activities include lock-ins, movie nights, field trips, visits and activities with seniors at our retirement homes, and much more.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is a mainstay of FUMC, providing an exciting summer ministry for Cheyenne’s families. Information on VBS for 2019 will be forthcoming.
Our youth group and education ministry is a vital part of our church. Under the guidance of Youth Minister, Kathy Lackey, our youth involve themselves in spiritual development and education, mission, and fellowship. This group meets at 12:00pm every Sunday in the church and attends to the spiritual development, fellowship, and mission-focus of our youth. Activities range from Bible study to Earth Day clean-ups, from bowling together to visiting folks at our retirement facilities. For information, contact Kathy Lackey firstname.lastname@example.org.
Youth Sunday School
